Regional Superintendent to lead search for Champaign School board replacements

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The Champaign Unit 4 School District board vacancies are getting closer to being filled.

Regional Superintendent Gary Lewis is leading the search to find needed replacements. He enlisted the help of five educators he respects; Assistant Regional Superintendent Donna Kaufman and former Urbana Superintendent Preston Williams being two of them.

Lewis said it’s important to get different perspectives in this process.

“I just really hope once they’re whole again, they can somehow mend,” Lewis said. “Obviously, seven people are going to have different opinions. But I would hope they can come together and just move forward.”

The two appointments will only go through April of next year. Then, they will have to go through the regular election process.
