Regina awarded Lingerie Football League team; joins Toronto and Abbotsford, B.C.

REGINA - The Lingerie Football League is coming to Regina.

The fledgling league announced Wednesday that the city will be home to Canada's third franchise.

The as-yet-unnamed team joins the B.C. Angels and Toronto Triumph in the women's indoor league that has its players wear protective padding, lingerie and little else.

Toronto played against American competition in 2011, but the LFL plans to announce three more teams based north of the border to create a six-team league known as LFL Canada.

The LFL — which dubs itself as "true fantasy football" — has operated in the United States for three years.

Teams in LFL Canada will play a 12-week schedule that is set to begin Aug. 25, 2012.

The LFL says it has plans to expand to Australia in 2013 and Europe in 2014.
