Regents School of Oxford to break ground on new upper school building

OXFORD - Regents School of Oxford will officially break ground on its new upper school facility on May 23 at 4 p.m.

The private classical Christian school, founded 24 years ago with 18 students, is expected to have around 460 students enrolled next year, and with that growth in enrollment comes facility expansion, said Beth Paul, Regents’ senior director of advancement.

“Regents School of Oxford exists to provide a classical, gospel-centered education to disciple our students to love, serve, and glorify God,” the school’s mission statement reads.

Speaking on the school’s goals for its students, head of school Matt Schroeder said that “our hope, when all of this is said and done, is that the students will know what they believe, why they believe it, and they can tell you why they believe it.”

The new building will host grades six through 12. It will span 45,000 square feet and include academic spaces, a dining hall and kitchen, a gym and athletic support spaces, and administrative offices. There will be outdoor spaces for the students as well.

Though preliminary work on the new building’s construction began March 6, the groundbreaking on May 23 will mark the site’s readiness for foundations to be poured. School officials expect the facility to open in August 2025.

The overall cost of the project is $15 million, $6 million of which was raised over the course of 18 months in a funding campaign that began in late 2021.

In the years to come, Regents officials hope to add further athletics facilities, then lower school academic spaces, then fine arts facilities to the new building.

“The heart of our school is our faculty,” Paul said. “We are excited that we'll have a facility that matches the quality of our teachers, because then they're going to have places and spaces to do what they do well.”
