It just goes to show you that even A-list, squeaky clean actresses can’t escape the long arm of the law (unless they happen to be in Hollywood, in which case they can pretty much get away with murder).
Reese Witherspoon was arrested early Friday morning for disorderly conduct. Yes, you read that correctly.
The actress’ husband, Hollywood agent Jim Toth, was pulled over in Atlanta after he crossed over into the wrong lane, Variety reports. He was then booked for driving under the influence after blowing a .139 on the Breathalyzer test.
Witherspoon, who was in the passenger seat at the time, was perturbed about how long the arrest was taking and got out of the vehicle when police specifically told her not to.
“Mrs. Witherspoon began to hang out the window and say that she did not believe that I was a real police officer,” the arresting officer wrote in the police report. “I told Mrs. Witherspoon to sit on her butt and be quiet.”
According to the report, she said that she was an American citizen and was allowed to “stand on American ground.”
Witherspoon resisted as the officer attempted to handcuff her, according to the police report.
“Do you know my name?” she asked. When the officer said he didn’t need to know her name, she replied, “You’re about to find out who I am.”
Witherspoon and Toth were both briefly jailed Friday morning before being released. The pair is scheduled to appear in Atlanta Municipal Court Monday morning, but will likely not appear, according to Variety.
Witherspoon is in Atlanta filming the indie movie “The Good Lie.”
