Reese Witherspoon and Adam Rippon: 'The relationship the world has been waiting for'

It was a match made in Twitter heaven when Adam Rippon superfan Reese Witherspoon and Reese Witherspoon superfan Adam Rippon met on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. It all started when Witherspoon sent out a tweet saying Rippon, a figure skater, was the No. 1 reason to watch the Winter Olympics. He responded quickly.

Rippon said he fell in love with Witherspoon after seeing her 2001 hit Legally Blonde. She became a follower of his after her trainer turned her on to his Twitter account. One tweet stood out — one that basically tells his haters that he’s not bothered by them. In fact, she could almost recite it.

And even though Witherspoon is the award-winning actress, Rippon was the one giving the acting tips. He taught her and Colbert how to do the “I just fell on the ice but I don’t care” face. Both of them gave it a shot with varying degrees of success. Obviously, Colbert would care if he fell.

While backstage before coming out to meet Witherspoon, Rippon suffered something that could be terribly embarrassing: a wardrobe malfunction. A button had fallen off of his shirt. He could have kept it hidden behind his medal but instead owned it, showing his stomach for all to see.

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 on CBS.
