Redskins sign kicker John Potter

The Washington Redkins have signed kicker John Potter today as an insurance policy in case kicker Kai Forbath can't go Sunday due to a right groin injury, according to the Washington Post.

Potter is a former Buffalo Bills seventh-round draft pick.

He was with the Redskins during the preseason.

Forbath is regarded as a game-time decision and is listed as questionable.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan ruled out the possibility of having both kickers up and having Forbath kick field goals and Potter handle kickoffs Sunday.

"No. Usually when it’s a groin, it’s a swing, so it doesn’t matter if he’s kicking a 50-yard field goal or an extra point, not a whole lot of difference," Shanahan told reporters. "You’ve got to feel comfortable with his leg."
