‘Red Shoe Day’ fundraiser supports local Ronald McDonald House
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Volunteers dressed in red were spread out at more than 80 intersections across San Diego Wednesday morning, collecting money for Ronald McDonald House charities.
A team of volunteers stood at the intersection of Camino del Norte and Rancho Bernardo Road, wearing red tutus and holding a Ronald McDonald shoe, collecting donations from drivers as part of an annual event called “Red Shoe Day.”
‘Point-in-Time Count’ reveals areas with the most homeless individuals
This was the 15th consecutive year for the event.
As of Wednesday afternoon, more than $165,000 has been raised to support the services provided by Ronald McDonald House. The donations will go toward lodging, meals, emotional support and family day services provided by the organization at no cost for families.
San Diegans are also able to donate year-round by rounding up their purchase to the nearest dollar at a McDonald’s restaurant.
