Red Lobster abruptly closes in Danville, mayor says

DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — A restaurant in Danville has suddenly closed its doors.

Danville Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. said in a Facebook post that a manager of the Red Lobster on Vermilion Street reached out to him, saying the restaurant abruptly closed Monday.

“I was just notified by one of our local Red Lobster managers that after 31 years of serving our community, without notice, their parent company laid off the entire crew and closed the restaurant effective immediately,” the mayor said. “This is despite the fact that they were rated number 15 out of over 600 stores for customer service & satisfaction last year.”

Williams also said he is offering prayers and help to the Red Lobster workers.

“THANK YOU for serving us so well & being the place we all went to for special occasions,” he said.

WCIA reached out to the company’s press department for comment, but has not yet heard back.
