Red Hots dance team presented with city limits signage

Feb. 28—THOMASVILLE- The Thomasville High School Red Hots dance team, along with their coach Alison Bundrick, were surprised during Tuesday night's City Schools Board of Education meeting.

Superintendent Dr. Fred Rayfield, Operations Director Jeremy Rayburn, and THS Principal Bryson Daniels presented the team with their own city limits sign, noting the team's 5 high kick championships.

"It is certainly always a pleasure to be able to recognize our students for their accomplishments," Rayfield told the Board. "Tonight, we have a team with us who have accomplished something extremely noteworthy outside of this room and outside of this county."

Rayfield was referring to the Red Hots' fifth straight championship in the High Kicks category for the Class 3A-4A title.

"This group has exemplified the standard of excellence that goes with wearing the Diamond T," Rayburn said. "On Saturday, February 10, 2024, our competition dance team, otherwise known as the Red Hots, competed in the GHSA State Championships, and for the fifth straight year the Red Hots kicked their way to some hardware."

Rayburn said that this award, along with their 2021 State Championship and 2022 State Runner-Up status, shows the dedication and hard work the team has poured into their practices and program.

Rayburn then individually read out each member of the dance team to receive a certificate from Rayfield.

This year's team included seniors Kylie Holt, Briana June, Latia Thomas, and Keely Walden; juniors Hallie Coppedge, Caroline Lewis, and Albree Norton; sophomores Ana Chambers, Amy Holt, and Katybeth Willis; and freshmen Savannah Harpe, Kinley Harrison, Kayla Mathis, and Stella Smith.

Bundrick and her assistants, Ryan Duggan and Hannah Harrison, also received certificates.

After receiving all of their certificates, Rayburn gathered the team for one last surprise.

"On behalf of Dr. Rayfield and Mr. Daniels, we would like to present you with a replica of the sign that will be placed at the city limits of Thomasville on Jackson Street that will mark the accomplishments of the last five years," Rayburn said.

Bundrick was elated and in shock asking her team if they knew about the signage beforehand.

However, they were just as surprised as she was.

Bundrick expressed her gratitude, sharing many thanks, and asking if the signage was hers to keep.

She was assured it was, as the other signs had already been placed. Rayfield encouraged her to use the signage to christen the new dance rooms that would become a reality as the renovation of Thomasville High School continued.

With her signage in hand, Bundrick thanked the School Board one final time, before the Red Hots kicked off another night of hard work and practice.
