Recycling Center closed following Topeka mulch fire

TOPEKA (KSNT) – On Friday, the Topeka Fire Department announced that a recycling center would be closed following a fire that happened on April 6.

The Topeka Fire Department responded to reports of heavy smoke at the Forestry’s Garick Recycling Center on Saturday, April 6. Upon arrival, firefighters found multiple large piles of mulch on fire and heavy smoke.

No structures or injuries were reported from the fire.

On April 7, crews were able to extinguish the fires at the recycling center. As a precautionary measure, the recycling center was closed until April 8. On Friday, April 12, the TFD announced the recycling center would be closed until Wednesday, April 17.
