Recreational harvest of Gray Triggerfish to close in Mississippi: Officials

BILOXI, Miss. (WKRG) — Fishermen are running out of time to catch the Gray Triggerfish as the recreational harvest is getting ready to close, according to the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources.

Officials announced the close of the recreational harvest for Gray Triggerfish, or Balistes capriscus, in Mississippi territorial waters is set to begin at 12:01 a.m. local time on Saturday, June 1.

The closure comes after the recreational season for Gray Triggerfish opened on March 1.

“The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources is dedicated to enhancing, protecting, and conserving marine interests of the state by managing all marine life, public trust wetlands, adjacent uplands, and waterfront areas to provide for the optimal commercial, recreational, educational, and economic uses of these resources consistent with environmental concerns and social changes,” an MDMR release said.
