Recovery continues for Wheat Ridge officer stabbed 12 times during 2022 call

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. (KDVR) — A Wheat Ridge officer continues to recover two years after he was stabbed 12 times on the job.

On April 13, 2022, Allan Fischer and his partner responded to reports of an aggressive driver in a stolen U-Haul who crashed into a fence at the Prospect RV Park located at 11600 W. 44th Ave. Fischer says the situation escalated once the officers tried to remove the suspect from the vehicle.

“I thought he was hitting me because I had him around the waist like this his back to my chest,” Fischer said. “I never saw him pull a knife or anything.”

The suspect stabbed him ten times in the neck, once in the back and the chest.

Stab wounds caused nerve injuries that are still present

“The stab wounds in my neck severed an artery that was right after your carotid artery,” he said, “which is the only reason I’m alive today.”

The injuries caused nerve damage to his face and neck. He recently had surgery to help correct problems in his left eye.

“Just recently have actually gotten to where I now have movement in my eye. I still can’t close it all the way,” Fischer said.

Officer hopes to one day patrol alongside daughter

His daughter, Officer Kylee Fischer, also works at the Wheat Ridge Police Department and was on scene the night of the attack.

“I think it was his sergeant at the time who had looked back at me and I just remember crying,” she said.

Two years later, her father continues to recover physically and emotionally. He’s now back at the department working in the records department but says he no longer thinks about that day.

“For a long time, I wouldn’t even go out in public because I didn’t look good at all. I looked like something out of Halloween, but now it’s just who I am I don’t really think much about it.”

He says his goal moving forward is to get his eyesight further repaired and maybe one day sit alongside his daughter in a patrol car.

“It becomes a bigger deal when I know how important it would be to her,” Fischer said.

The suspect in the case, Andre Jones, is facing 10 charges including attempted first-degree murder. His trial is scheduled to begin on Aug. 6.
