Millions of travelers are expected to hit the road this July 4th weekend, setting a new record.

More than 2 million Ohioans are planning to travel over the long weekend, beating last year’s record by almost 90,000 according to AAA.

“People coming out of COVID have been really patient but now they’re really ready to get back with family and friends, even with the flight tickets being higher and inventory being less ... people are still making that commitment to be with family and friends,” Kara Hitches, public affairs manager of AAA said.

AAA expects Friday, June 30 to be the best business day on the road and suggests leaving in the morning or after 6 p.m. to avoid traffic. Minimal traffic is expected July 2-3.

The travel agency also reminded drivers to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles or vehicles stopped on the side of the road.
