Recap: Saints lose second preseason game in awful fashion

The preseason means nothing, and that should be the news that excites New Orleans fans most right now.

For the second week in a row, it was an awful showing and the team looked pathetic once again. The offence did nothing while the defensive starting regulars also didn’t look half as good as last season. That’s saying a lot.

MVP-Brock Osweiler

The Texans paid for a quarterback that they hope will be able to emerge as a key starter. He sure looked like the guy they threw $72 million at during his time on the field Saturday night.

Osweiler completed 12 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown. Then again, is there one quarterback who didn’t dice up the Saints defence at any point last season?

LVP-Offense

The Saints offense looked terrible…even with the starters on the field. Drew Brees completed just five passes for 29 yards, threw an interception and was sacked once. The offensive line did its job for the most part, allowing just two sacks.

Luke McCown wasn’t great, either. He tossed 14 passes for 118 yards. Garrett Grayson completed four passes for 50 yards, but threw an interception in the red zone on the last play. He doesn’t look like the guy who wants to take over for Drew Brees in the future.

Play of the Game: Jadeveon Clowney’s Sack

Give credit where it’s due. The 2014 first-round pick got through one of the NFL’s toughest offensive lines and blasted Brees on this play:

Next Up: Vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

The Saints will host the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday. If the visitors plan to start Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown and others for some of the game, it’ll be a great test for the defence that really needs to start getting it together.

It’s been a real bad showing in preseason for the Saints. This comes after a great practice against the New England Patriots two weeks ago. Time for the Saints to start playing better as the regular season comes closer.
