Recalls this week: Toy helicopters, chest freezers

Toy remote-controlled helicopters with a battery that can overheat and ignite are among this week's recalled products. Others include chest freezers that can overheat and ride-on toys that can unexpectedly accelerate.

REMOTE-CONTROLLED TOY HELICOPTERS

DETAILS: Remote-controlled toy Banshee 3 Channel helicopters made by Ultimate Products Ltd. And imported by Midwest Trading Group Inc. The recall involves series 3CH-777 with "Fly Dragonfly" and SKU (hash)51727 printed on the product packaging. "Date of Production: June 2011," ''Manufacturer Ultimate Products (HK) Ltd.," and "Distributor MTG Inc." is printed on a white label on the back of the helicopter remote control. They were sold from Oct. 2011 through Nov. 2011.

WHY: The rechargeable battery inside the helicopters can overheat and ignite the helicopter, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers or nearby items

INCIDENTS: One report of a helicopter overheating with flames coming from the helicopter and one report of minor property damage. No injuries have been reported.

CHEST FREEZERS

DETAILS: Three models of chest freezers including Haier model HNCM070E with serial numbers beginning with 0907 through 0912 and 1001 through 1004 that were sold through Sept. 2009 through Oct. 2011. Also, Haier model ESNCMO53E with serial numbers beginning with 0907 through 0912 and serial numbers 1001 through 1007 that were sold between Feb. 2010 and March 2013. Also, Black & Decker model BFE53 and serial numbers beginning with 0907 through 0912 and serial numbers 1001 through 1007 that were sold from Sept. 2009 through Sept. 2010.

WHY: A capacitor in the freezer's circuitry can overheat, posing a fire hazard.

INCIDENTS: In addition to the 18 incidents reported in the November 2010 recall, which included four reports of fires with minor property damage, there have been 27 additional incident reports. This includes three fires that caused substantial property damage. There have been no reports of injuries.

HOW MANY: About 41,000 under the expanded recall. About 67,500 additional freezers were recalled in November 2010.

RIDE-ON TOYS

DETAILS: Urban Shredder ride-on toys made by Heshan Congtin Technological Development Co. and distributed by Dynacraft BSC Inc. The Hot Wheels branded toys were sold in green and black (Model Nos. 8801-05 and 8801-05com) or red and black (Model No. 8801-15) and have Hot Wheels graphics. Recalled models were made on September 15, 2012, October 15, 2012, or December 1, 2012. Model number 8801-15 or 8801-05 or 8801-05com and the date of manufacture, formatted as "YYYY/MM/DD," are printed on a data label on the underside of the toy. They were sold from Nov. 2012 to Feb. 2013. Serial numbers included in the recall have letters "CT-EEI" followed by a six-digit number in the range of 000001 through 003075 and 010759 through 11075; letters "CT-EEJ" followed by a six digit number in the range of 003076 through 010758; and the letters "CT-CEJ" followed by a six digit number in the range of 003000 through 005000.

WHY: The toys can unexpectedly accelerate and cause the rider to lose control, posing a fall hazard.

INCIDENTS: 17 reports of the Urban Shredder toys accelerating. No injuries have been reported.
