Recalls this week include defective stepstools, strollers, and mattresses

Stepstools and stepladders that can break from under their users and strollers that can collapse while in use are among this week's recalled products. Others include mattresses that fail to meet fire hazard standards.

STEPLADDER/STEPSTOOLS
DETAILS: Stepladder and Stepstools Combination imported by Wing Enterprises Inc. of Springville, Utah, and made by Suzhou Zhongchuang Aluminum Products Co. Ltd. of China. They were sold exclusively at Home Depot and online at Homedepot.com from August to October in 2012. The words "Switch-it by Little Giant" appear on the front of the top platform.
WHY: When extended, the inner side rails can separate from the outer side rails, posing a risk of falling and injury for the user.
INCIDENTS: Nine reports of the ladder becoming unstable, causing the user to fall and sustain injuries ranging from scrapes and contusions to a fractured collar bone.

STROLLERS
DETAILS: Baby Jogger City Versa strollers made by Baby Jogger LLC of Richmond, Va. They were sold from July through October in 2012. The strollers have charcoal-colored metal frames with black, silver, red or green fabric stroller seats and canopies. The date of manufacture is printed on the stroller's black plastic side hinge below "Baby Jogger" and "City Versa." ''City Versa" is also printed on the stroller's fabric in the child's leg area.
WHY: The stroller frame can fail to lock in place and collapse while in use, posing a risk of injury to children in the stroller.
INCIDENTS: Six reports of incidents with the stroller's frame failing to lock. No injuries reported.
HOW MANY: About 8,400 in the United States and 2,200 in Canada.

COLLECTABLE CERAMICS
DETAILS: Shelly's Diner Collectible Ceramics distributed by Enesco LLC of Itasca, Ill. They were sold from July through September in 2012. The product is part of the Department 56 Original Snow Village collection of lighted buildings and comes with a traditional power cord that lights the interior and a separate power adapter that lights the exterior. The collectible is a ceramic building shaped like a diner.
WHY: The diner-shaped ceramic's power adapter can overheat and melt its plastic housing, posing a fire hazard.
INCIDENTS: Two reports of power adapters partially melting due to overheating. No injuries or property damage were reported.

MATTRESSESS
DETAILS: Classic by Easy-Rest Foam Core Mattresses imported by Easy-Rest Inc. of Portland, Ore. They were sold from September 2011 through September 2012. The Easy-Rest "Classic" model mattresses were sold in twin and in full sizes. Some mattresses were also sold with a foundation. The mattresses have a red, zippered fabric cover over a 5-inch foam core. "Classic 5," the model number and the date of manufacture are printed on the federal label attached to the mattress. The lot number is printed at the bottom of the state label attached to the mattress. "Easy-Rest Inc." is printed on both tags.
WHY: The mattresses fail to meet the mandatory federal open flame standard for mattresses, posing a fire hazard to consumers.
INCIDENTS: None reported.

RENOVATED MATTRESSESS
DETAILS: Mattresses and mattresses with foundations made by American Mattress Manufacturing of Atlanta. They were sold at Bren-Wil Mattress Wholesale of Millbrook, Ala.; A&R Furniture of Macon, Ga.; Ahnn's Mattress of Hampton, Ga.; Blair Village Pawn Shop of Atlanta, Ga.; E&S Mattress Discount of Columbus, Ga.; General Furnishing of Loganville, Ga.; HRC Furniture of Jackson, Ga.; Mattress for Less of Macon, Ga.; Mattress 4 Sale of Riverdale and Forest Park, Ga.; Starlite Furnishing of Chamblee, Ga.; and Mega Mattress Outlet of Jackson, Miss. from December 2010 through September 2011. The recall includes renovated twin, full, queen and king-size mattresses, and mattresses with built-in Bunkie boards. They have a yellow tag with "American Mattress Mfg. Co., 1899 Metropolitan Parkway, Atlanta, GA 30315" on them. The mattresses were manufactured in the United States.

LOW LEAD BALL VALVES
DETAILS: Low Lead Ball Valves/Shut-Off Gas Valves imported by Aqualine of Corona, Calif.; AY McDonald Manufacturing Co. of Dubuque, Iowa; FNW of Portland, Ore.; Hodes Co. of Kansas City, Mo.; Legend of Auburn Hills, Mich.; Leonard Valve of Cranston, R.I. and Mueller of Memphis, Tenn.. They were sold by Fu San Machinery directly to seven distributors nationwide from April 2011 through January 2012. The seven brands of sweat and threaded, low lead ball valves are used in flammable gas piping systems used in commercial or residential settings. They are brass shut-off valves assembled with pipe lines of 3/4 inch and 1 inch. The date code is located under the valve handle. The pipe size is marked on the body of the valve. Fu San's logo and the "O'' marking designated for low lead valves are marked on the valves' neck under where the handle assembles. The word "Taiwan" appears on the handle as a country of origin marking. The valves were made by Fu San Machinery Co. Ltd. in Taiwan.
WHY: The valves can crack and cause gas to leak, posing fire and explosion hazards.
INCIDENTS: None reported.

MAGNET DESK TOYS
DETAILS: High-powered magnet desk toys imported by Reiss Innovations LLC of Manchester, Conn., and made by Global Goler Co. Limited of Guangdong, China. They were sold exclusively at Amazon.com and Dynocube.com from July 2011 through April 2012. The high-powered magnet sets were sold under the DynoCube.com brand name for use as a novelty item or desk toy.
WHY: When two or more magnets are swallowed, they can link together inside a child's intestines and clamp onto body tissues, causing intestinal obstructions, perforations, sepsis and death. Internal injury from magnets can pose serious lifelong health effects.
INCIDENTS: Reiss Innovations has received no reports of incidents or injuries.
