Recalls this week: Lamps, blenders, bike parts
Clip-on desk lamps and kitchen blenders are among this week's recalled products. The lamps pose the risk of an electric shock, and someone using the blender could be cut by rotating blades if the blender's plastic pitcher separates from the blade assembly during operation. Other newly recalled products include bicycle handlebar stems, lighting reflector assemblies, kitchen table sets and mattresses.
Here's a closer look at the products:
CLIP-ON DESK LAMPS
DETAILS: LED Clip-On Desk Lamps imported by L G Sourcing Inc. of North Wilkesboro, N.C., and manufactured by He Shan Lide of China. The lamps were sold exclusively at Lowe's stores nationwide from May 2011 to December 2011. The pink and blue plastic LED desk lamps have a flexible 12 inch-long metal neck and a clamp at the base. The power cord has a silver label attached to it. On one side of the label "MET," ''Electrical Safety," ''E113152" and "Apr. 2011" are printed.
WHY: The power cord for the lamp can detach where it meets the clamp, exposing energized wires and posing an electric shock hazard to consumers.
INCIDENTS: The company has received five reports of cords detaching, including one reported electric shock and one report of a child receiving burns to her hand and leg.

KITCHEN BLENDERS
DETAILS: Kitchen Selectives 6-Speed Blender manufactured and imported by Select Brands Inc. of Lenexa, Kan. The blenders were sold at Midwest retail stores Pamida and Sutherlands from June 2009 to April 2012. The blender consists of a 6-inch tall, white electrical base with five, white speed-selector buttons and the logo "Kitchen Selectives" in black letters on the front; a clear plastic pitcher with a handle with U.S. and metric volume measurement markings; a white plastic lid with a removable clear plastic lid stopper; and a white plastic blade assembly with two angled, stainless steel blades. The blenders were manufactured in China.
WHY: While the blender is operating, the plastic pitcher can separate from the blade assembly, leaving the assembly in the base and exposing the rotating blades. Someone using the blender could suffer severe cuts.

BICYCLE HANDLEBAR STEMS
DETAILS: 4ZA threadless carbon bicycle handlebar stems distributed by Sinclair Imports, of Reno, Nev., and Quality Bicycle Products, of Bloomington, Minn., and manufactured by Race Productions NV, of Belgium. The stems were sold at specialty bicycle retailers and via websites from January 2005 through April 2010. They were manufactured in Taiwan. The 4ZA 31.8 threadless bicycle handlebar stems are black and have the word "4ZA Cycling Performance" painted on the carbon extension between the steerer clamp and handlebar clamp. They range in extension lengths from 90mm to 130mm, about 3.5 to 5 inches.
WHY: The bicycle handlebar stems can crack or break, posing a fall hazard.
INCIDENTS: The company received one report of a handlebar stem breaking, resulting in minor injuries.

LIGHTING REFLECTOR ASSEMBLIES
DETAILS: Portfolio 7-inch reflector assembly with glass lens distributed by Cooper Lighting LLC of Peachtree City, Ga. The products were sold at authorized distributors nationwide from May 2008 through February 2012. The reflector assemblies are designed to be inserted into a light fixture. There are four springs attached to the lip of the reflector. The assemblies were manufactured in the United States.
WHY: The reflector can fall out of its fixture, which could result in an injury.
INCIDENTS: Cooper Lighting has received 23 reports of reflectors falling. No injuries reported.

KITCHEN TABLE SETS
DETAILS: Three-piece oak table and chair sets sold through the Stoneberry catalog and website from January 2012 and March 2012. The table is square with four straight, rectangular legs. The chairs have a white padded cushion seat and a slatted backrest. Both the table and the wooden parts of the chairs are a light pine color. The sets were made in China, imported by Vantage Sales, Inc., of Lake Zurich, Ill., and distributed by Mason Cos. of Chippewa Falls, Wis.
WHY: The chairs can collapse during normal use, and someone sitting in it could fall.

MATTRESSES
DETAILS: Chicago Century Furniture Corp. twin-, full-, queen- and king-size mattresses with the model number "MG006." The mattresses are 3 inches thick with white and off-white fabric with a tone-on-tone swirl pattern. The model number can be found on a paper tag attached to the foot of the mattress. The words "Century Spring Mattress" appear on a fabric label on the topside near the foot of the mattress. A picture of a man and woman embracing also appear on the label. The mattresses were made in China, and imported by Chicago Century Furniture Corp., of Chicago, previously Century Furniture Corp.
WHY: The mattresses fail to meet the mandatory federal open flame standard for mattresses, posing a fire hazard.
