Recalls this week: Kolcraft Countours strollers
A line of about 36,000 strollers were among products recalled this week. They pose a risk of finger amputation, with three reports of children losing fingertips due to the product's hinge mechanism.
STROLLERS
DETAILS: Kolcraft Contours Options three- and four-wheeled strollers with model numbers starting with ZL002, ZL005, ZL008, ZL015, and ZL018. The strollers were sold from Jan. 2006 through June 2012.
WHY: A finger can get caught in the opening formed when locking and unlocking the hinge mechanism used to adjust the handlebars on the strollers. This presents an amputation and laceration hazard.
INCIDENTS: Five reports of injuries involving the hinge mechanism, including reports of three children whose fingertips were amputated and two adults whose fingers were either crushed or cut.

HELMETS
DETAILS: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is urging motorcyclists not to wear the 5X5 brand, SA-08 model motorcycle helmet, because it does not meet federal head protection requirements. The company declared bankruptcy before completing a government requested recall.
WHY: The helmets failed to meet penetration protection requirements. Both the outer shell and the inner liner in three out of four helmets were penetrated in safety tests.
INCIDENTS: The agency isn't aware of any deaths or injuries.
HOW MANY: Officials said as many as 14,000 of the helmets were imported and sold by Tank Sports Inc. of California.
ACTION URGED: The agency advises motorcyclists not to use the helmets and to discard them.
