Recalls this week include food dehydrators and softball bats

A line of food dehydrators that can overheat and softball bats that can break at the handle are among this week's recalled consumer products.

FOOD DEHYDRATORS
DETAILS: 5-tray food dehydrator with a digital timer. The dehydrators are gray and are made of plastic and metal. The model number 1009 is on a label located on the back panel with the company's contact details. The "LEM" logo is embossed on the top of the unit, which has a panel with the digital timer, the on/off switch and a temperature control knob. The UPC code is printed on the bottom of the packaging and reads 73449401009. They were sold from August 2010 through February.
WHY: The fan can fail causing the unit to overheat and pose a fire hazard.
INCIDENTS: Two reports of fan failure both resulting in fire in the units. In one incident the consumer was close by and prevented a fire by carrying the unit outside. There were no injuries reported.
HOW MANY: About 14,600 in the U.S, and 100 in Canada. This product was previously recalled in February 2011.

BATS
DETAILS: Louisville Slugger OneX Fastpitch softball bat. The bats include all OneX style bats. The composite bat has a white and grey shell with blue and yellow lettering. "Louisville Slugger oneX" appears twice on the barrel, in yellow in one place and in blue lettering on the other side. The "X'' is yellow in both places. They were sold from May 2012 through February 2013.
WHY: The bat's barrel can separate from the handle during use and strike people nearby.
INCIDENTS: About 170 bat handle separations have been reported. The company is aware of one report of a barrel from a broken bat hitting a player in the shin.
HOW MANY: About 13,000.
