Recalls this week include fitness equipment, mattresses, and bicycles

A line of resistance bands used for exercise was recalled this week because they can detach during workouts, posing an injury risk. Other items being recalled include mattresses that fail to meet fire safety standards and faulty bicycles.
FITNESS EQUIPMENT
DETAILS: Perfect Resistance Bands made by Dalps & Leisure Products Supply Corp. No. 5 of China. The bands are rubber tubes connected through a hole and secured by grommets to cloth sewn into loops. The bands can be used alone or in conjunction with optional handles, which are sold separately. The recalled bands are: Perfect Bands Heavy 25 lb. capacity with UPC Code 096506310354, color purple, Perfect Bands Very Heavy 30 lb. capacity, UPC Code 096506310361, color gray, and Perfect Bands Ultra Heavy 40 lb. capacity, UPC Code 096506310378, color black. They were sold by Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and online at www.perfectonline.com
WHY: The bands can detach from the mesh cloth loops, posing an injury hazard to the user and others in the vicinity.
INCIDENTS: 12 incidents, including injuries to the back, hand, and eye.

TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY SENSORS
DETAILS: Q-Series temperature and humidity sensors made by Siemens Industry Inc. The wall-mounted sensors control heat, air conditioning, and humidity inside commercial buildings, hospitals and schools. The sensors come in three designs: a blank cover, a cover with a digital display screen or a cover with a digital display screen and door. The sensors are either white or beige and have a Siemens, Talon, and Staefa Control System, Staefa Control System/Talon logo or no logo. The recalled model numbers include: QAA 2060, QAA 2063, QAA 2072, QAA 2073, QFA 2000, QFA 2001, QFA 2060, QFA 2071, QFA2072, QFA 3000, QFA 3001, QFA 3060, QFA 3071, and SB1-0834.
WHY: The sensors can overheat, posing a fire hazard.
INCIDENTS: Four incidents of overheating and fires, including two fires in schools and two fires in hospitals. No injuries were reported.

MATTRESSES
DETAILS: Mattress Cloud new and renovated twin, full, queen and king mattress sets. The mattresses were sold in a variety of colors and fabrics. "Ultra Support" and "Ortho Type" are printed on iron-on labels on the mattresses. Recalled mattresses have a white federal tag with "Manufactured By: The mattress Cloud, 769 Chauncey, Brooklyn, NY 11207." The recall involves all Mattress Cloud mattresses manufactured prior to January 25, 2012. Some mattress tags have no date printed on them which are included in the recall. They were sold from Aug. 2011 through Jan. 2012.
WHY: The mattresses fail to meet the mandatory federal open flame standard for mattresses.
INCIDENTS: None reported.

BICYCLES AND FRAME SETS
DETAILS: 2012 and 2013 model road bicycles and framesets made by Merida Industry Co. and Topkey of Taiwan, respectively. They come in various colors and have the brand name "Specialized" on the frame. The model name "Tarmac SL4," ''Crux" or "Secteur" is also located on the frame. The recall includes all models of the 2012 Tarmac SL4, 2013 Tarmac SL4, 2013 Crux and 2013 Secteur Disc. The model year and style names are on the sales documents. They were sold from July 2011 through Jan. 2013.
WHY: The steering tube in the front fork can break, posing a fall hazard.
INCIDENTS: Two reported, including one involving a fall with facial injuries and lacerations requiring stitches.
