Recalls this week: chairs, grills, fireplaces

Office chairs and rocking chairs that could break are among the consumer products recalled this week. Others include gas grills, fireplaces, electric ranges, bicycles and scuba diving air hoses.

OFFICE CHAIRS

DETAILS: Gruga Office Chairs imported by Sauder Woodworking Company of Archbold, Ohio. They were sold from Aug. 2009 to Sept. 2012. The recalled chairs are entertainment, executive, manager's, and task chairs with the brand name "GRUGA Seating from Sauder." The model number and Universal Product Code are on a tag attached to the bottom of the seat. A blue date code is stamped on the legal disclaimer label on the underside of the chair seat.

WHY: The seat plate can break, posing a fall hazard to consumers.

INCIDENTS: 17 reports of seat plates breaking, two of which involved consumers falling and receiving bumps and bruises.

GLIDER ROCKERS

DETAILS: Graco-branded Avalon Glider Rockers with Ottoman and Complete Nursery Solution (CNS) Box 2 / Katelyn Nursery Solution Glider Rockers. The rockers and model numbers involved in the recall vary and can be found here: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml13/13032.html .

They were sold exclusively online at Walmart.com from Nov. 2011 to Oct. 2012.

WHY: The base can crack or break, posing a fall hazard.

INCIDENTS: 26 reports of the Avalon glider rockers breaking. In one incident, the occupant fell to the ground and sustained a minor injury. Two reports of the CNS Box 2 glider rocker breaking with no injuries

HOW MANY: About 33,000 Avalon rockers and 5,600 CNS Box 2/ Katelyn glider rockers.

GAS GRILLS

DETAILS: Master Forge Gas Grills imported by LG Sourcing Inc. and made by Guangdong Vanward Electric Co. Ltd. of China. They were sold exclusively at Lowe's stores nationwide from Nov. 2011 through May 2012. The four-burner gas grills have a single-door base and "Master Forge" written on its hood. The model number is located on a label inside the door of the grill's base.

WHY: If improperly installed, the hose connecting the gas tank and regulator to the burner control can touch the burner box and cause the hose to melt and rupture when the grill is lit, posing a fire and burn hazard.

INCIDENTS: Two reports of hoses melting and rupturing. No injuries reported.

HOW MANY: About 37,000.

GAS FIREPLACES

DETAILS: Signature Command Controlled Direct and B-Vent Gas Fireplaces and Inserts. The recall involves electronically controlled Majestic, Monessen and Vermont Castings direct-vent and B-vent gas fireplaces and inserts. Models included in the recall have serial numbers ranging from 11-X-027322 to 11-X-031501; 12-X-000275 to 12-X-015206, 11-P-032597 to 11-P-059389; and 12-P-000202 to 12-P-037583. They were sold from Oct. 2011 to Oct. 2012.

WHY: A control component can prevent the unit from lighting, though gas continues to flow, posing a fire hazard.

INCIDENTS: None reported.

ELECTRIC RANGES

DETAILS: LG Electric Range models LRE30451, LRE30453, LRE30755, LRE30757, and LRE30955ST. They were sold in black, white and stainless steel and with a smooth black ceramic glass top cooking surface. The recalled ranges have serial numbers starting with 512, 601, 602, 603, 604, 605, 606, 607, 608, 609, 610, 611, 612, 701, 702, 703, 704, 705, 706, 707, 708, 709, 710, 711, 712, 801, 802, 803, 804, 805, 806, 807, 808, 809, 810, 901, 902, 903, 904, 905, and 906. The model and serial numbers can be found on a label that can be seen by opening the storage drawer at the base of the unit. They were sold from Jan. 2006 to June 2010.

WHY: Burners on the ranges can fail to turn off after being switched off and the temperature setting can increase unexpectedly during use.

INCIDENTS: 80 reports of incidents involving burners failing to turn off or the temperature setting increasing unexpectedly during use.

HOW MANY: About 161,000.

BICYCLES

DETAILS: Universal Cycle Corp.'s 2013 Diamondback Steilacoom RCX, which are black in color and sold in various sizes ranging from 50-cm to 59-cm. "RCX" is printed on the top tube of the bicycle. They were imported by Diamondback Bicycles and sold from Aug. 2012 through Sept. 2012.

WHY: Bicycles assembled with incorrect headset parts could cause the steerer tube to fail, causing the rider to lose control and fall or crash.

INCIDENTS: None reported.

SCUBA DIVING AIR HOSES

DETAILS: High pressure scuba diving air hoses imported by Innovative Scuba Concepts Inc. of Colorado Springs, Colo., Trident Diving Equipment of Chatsworth, Calif., and A-Plus Marine of Gulf Breeze, Fla. They were made by Li Chung Plastics Ind. Co. Ltd. of Taiwan and sold at scuba diving retailers nationwide and online from Aug. 2011 through Aug. 2012.

WHY: The diving hose can rupture reducing the available air supply to the diver, posing a drowning hazard.

INCIDENTS: Nine reports of burst hoses. No injuries reported.

HOW MANY: About 2,590 total units (1,900 Innovative Scuba Concepts hoses, about 480 Trident Diving Equipment hoses and about 210 A-Plus Marine hoses).
