Recall notice issued on Palmer Candy in New Mexico, Texas United stores

Two candied confections have been recalled across Texas and New Mexico supermarkets, including United, Amigos, Market Street and Albertsons locations due to a possible Salmonella contamination.

The recall is for Palmer Candy Company's Chocolate Caramel Corn and Candy Trays at the United Family of Supermarkets in Texas and New Mexico, according to a market news release issued Friday.

This is due to the company's liquid coating supplier notifying Palmer Candy about a potential Salmonella contamination "from an ingredient that was potentially contaminated from one of their suppliers," according to United Supermarkets. Specifically, this impacted the white-coated confections.

These products should be disposed of or returned to the local store for a full refund. Concerned customers can reach out to Albertsons Companies’ Customer Service Center at 1-877-723-3929 Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.-11 p.m. CST. People can also call Palmer Candy Company at 1-800-831-0828 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

As of 12:31 p.m. Friday, no injuries or adverse reactions from consumption have been reported. Symptoms of Salmonella include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. It can cause serious and "sometimes fatal in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems," according to the release.

The FDA recall, issued early Friday, gave a full list of products pulled from "Walmart, HyVee, Target, Dollar General, and to distributors in Alabama, California, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming."

The brand names include "Freshness Guaranteed, Palmer, Sweet Smiles, Snackin’ With The Crew, Casey’s, Sconza Chocolates, Favorite Day Bakery, Sunny Select, Urge!, Kwik Trip Inc.," according to the FDA.

  • Cookies & Cream Yummy Chow 14# with the best by dates between Dec. 6, 2024-Jan. 8, 2025.

  • 8oz Enrobed Pretzel Rods with a best by date of Jan. 22, 2025.

  • 7oz Favorite Day Bakery White Fudge Mini Cookies with the best by dates of April 4, 5, 15 and 18.

  • 15oz Frosted Munchy Medley Bowl with the best by date of Jan. 3, 2025.
