Rebels evacuate residents from east Ukraine
An hour or so after the announcement to evacuate people, warning sirens were heard in the centre of Donetsk.
The move to evacuate people followed an increase in shelling along the line of control in the Donbass region over the last two days.
Buses with evacuated residents of Donetsk and surrounding areas controlled by Russian-backed separatists left the city on Friday evening to head for Russia.
Most DPR residents are Russian speakers and many have already been granted Russian citizenship. Ukraine says the people who run the DPR are not separatists but Russian proxies, something the Kremlin denies.
