This is the reason mattress sales are so popular on Memorial Day weekend
Each year we take the time on Memorial Day to remember the rich history of our country and honor the lives that were lost along the way. We simultaneously celebrate the unofficial start to the summer and enjoy all the sales that come along with the holiday.
Some of the more popular sales you’ll see include TVs, clothes and shoes, and home appliances. But there’s one sale this Memorial Day that’s catching everyone’s attention.
This year, it’s all about the cheap mattresses.
Many major brands and department stores are slashing the prices for mattresses during the long Memorial Day weekend, and it may seem like just any other sale, but it’s more thought out than you think.
Puneet Manchanda, professor of marketing at the University of Michigan, told USA Today that companies put on a mattress sale on Memorial Day because people are more likely to make big purchases like this when they have an extra day to think it over.
“A product like a mattress, you need time to go there check it out with significant other or partner and that creates a lot of barriers to just buying it on any given weekend or day,” Manchanda said.
Having that extra Monday under your belt gives you all the time you need to make the decision and go through with the purchase. You really shouldn’t have a mattress for more than 7 to 9 years, so if yours is starting to feel old, this weekend might be the time to get yourself a new bed.
