Reaper Drone Deployed to Help Fight California Wildfires

A drone from the California Air National Guard was deployed in a bid to support firefighters battling wildfires in northern California.

This video shows the MQ-9 Reaper remotely piloted aircraft, which can fly for up to 24 hours daily, taking off from March Air Reserve Base in California on August 1.

The National Guard hopes the drone can provide a real-time look of the fires, a spokesperson for the Defense Visual Information Distribution Services said.

The California wildfires have continued to devastate the state. By August 15, the fires had burned 820,000 acres, and killed at least 10 people, including firefighters. Credit: DVIDS/California Air National Guard via Storyful
