'Do you really feel safer under Trump?': Biden

(Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden): “He may believe mouthing the words law and order makes him strong… Does anyone believe less violence in America if Donald Trump is reelected? We need justice in America. We need safety in America.”

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden on Monday in Pittsburgh gave a fiery speech, accusing President Donald Trump of sowing chaos amid nationwide protests and pushing back on Republican assertions that Trump stands for "law and order."

“I find it fascinating, quote, You won't be safe in Joe Biden's America. And what's their proof? The violence we're seeing in Donald Trump's America."

Biden's remarks come as Trump, who trails his rival in opinion polls, accuses Democrats of losing control of sometimes violent demonstrations over police brutality and racial inequality that have gripped American cities for months.

On that point, the former Vice President tried to send a no-tolerance message.

“Looting is not protesting. Setting fires is not protesting. None of this is protesting. It's lawlessness. Plain and simple and those who do it should be prosecuted."

Biden also said people were not safe in a Trump America where COVID-19 has killed more than 180,000 Americans and created an upside-down economy.

“Do you know what people are afraid of in America? They are afraid they're going to get COVID. They are afraid they are going to get sick and die... Do you really feel safer under Trump?”

Biden’s visit to Pennsylvania, an important swing state that helped propel Trump to victory in 2016, marked an unusual trip for the former vice president, who has worked mostly from his Delaware home since March.

Biden’s campaign has indicated he expects to increase his travel to the states that will decide the election as the vote draws nearer.
