‘Real Time With Bill Maher’ Finally Lands President Barack Obama; Also Announces Facebook Live Trump-Joke Special
After nearly a year of on-air pleading and a national petition at whitehouse.gov, Bill Maher has landed President Barack Obama as a guest for his HBO program Real Time With Bill Maher. Maher will interview the president at the White House this week for airing next Friday, Nov. 4.
Maher made the announcement on his show tonight, joking that it only took eight years of trying. Actually, more like one year: Last January, Maher announced on his HBO show that he’d posted a petition at the White House website to convince Obama to appear on the show. Addressing Obama, Maher said at the time, “You’ve done everything but Ultimate Fights and amateur porn,” adding, “If you went any lower you’d be on Fox and Friends.”
The petition quickly garnered the 100,000 signatures needed to secure a White House response, though that response merely said the invitation was under consideration.
The Real Time host announced the President’s booking at the start of his show’s roundtable discussion tonight, later mentioning that the interview would be conducted at the White House sometime this week. In-studio guests next week are Martin Short, former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm and journalist David Frum.
Maher, who famously donated $1 million to Obama’s presidential campaign, also posted a promo on YouTube about the booking (watch it above).
On the show, Maher also announced that he will perform his stand-up routine of Trump-related jokes on Facebook Live this coming Wednesday, Nov. 2, noting the bit’s expiration date was arriving soon. The one-hour special, titled Whiny Little Bitch after one of Maher’s favorite anti-Trump jokes, kicks off at 7 PM ET.
The announcement was a bit of good news for Maher on a day when his campaign of choice suffered at least a temporary glitch with the FBI’s disclosure that it was reviewing additional emails pertaining to last summer’s Hillary Clinton investigation. The emails were found on a device seized in the FBI’s investigation of Anthony Weiner’s sexting-with-a-minor allegations.
“No wonder she had her computer wiped,” Maher joked. “I’d have had it boiled.”
Maher ambled through a few of the real-life Halloween horrors haunting us this year, including the political fortunes of a favored Candidate once again “tied to a basket of deplorable horndogs.” Maher himself remains staunch, saying he’d vote for Hillary even if something truly horrific turned up in her server basement, something like, well, see for yourself below, at about the 5:12 mark.
