Candace Owens made a dramatic exit from The Daily Wire earlier this month announcing that she was “finally free” from the conservative news outlet. The split came shortly after Owens went on a Black media tour, stopping at shows with popular Black male hosts, including the “Breakfast Club” and “The Joe Budden Podcast.”

The pivot towards Black media outlets didn’t go unnoticed. But many on social media argued this was less about wanting to embrace Black America and more about her falling out with the right wing.

“Candace Owens went on Breakfast Club because she’s alienated a lot of her extremist right-wing backers/base,” tweeted one social media user, “and she wants to get some normal Black people on her side as she attempts to pivot. Stay Woke.”

“SAME SCRIPT, DIFFERENT CAST: Remember Stacey Dash & Omarosa were used to tear down the Black community? Then they were fired from their conservative platforms & had to rebrand.. Candace Owens getting that same treatment, I’m watching to see if or how far she’ll pivot..,” posted Jerome Trammel on X.

Owens clashes with Daily Wire co-founder Ben Shapiro spilled out into the open during a November spat on X, reportedly over Israel. “No one can serve two masters,” posted Owens adding, “You cannot serve both God and money.”

Shapiro responded by reposting her message and writing, “Candace if you feel that taking money from The Daily Wire somehow comes between you and God, by all means quit.”

Owens then said Shapiro had been “acting unprofessional and emotionally unhinged for weeks now.”

The official split was reportedly sparked by antisemitic theories boosted by Owens.

The inklings that Owens may no longer be a darling of the far-right were apparent as early as 2022. During an episode of her Daily Wire show, Owens recounted an interaction with former President Donald Trump, where he was “rude” and angry with her over a quote she says was misinterpreted.

The post was boosted by former Breitbart News editor-in-chief, Raheem Kassam, who publicly accused Owens’ husband of sexual assault.

Only time will tell if she’ll be able to create a space for herself among the Joe Buddens and Chalamagnes The Gods of the world.
