Real Goods Solar shares climb after Vermont deal

Real Goods Solar shares advance after deal to develop solar farm in Vermont

LOUISVILLE, Colo. (AP) -- Real Goods Solar Inc. said Wednesday that it will develop a new solar farm in Vermont, with construction expected to begin next month and scheduled to be completed by November.

Real Goods, based in Louisville, Colo., said that its subsidiary RGS Energy will design, install, monitor and maintain the 2.2 megawatt solar system in St. Albans, VT, for St. Albans Solar Partners, LLC. It is expected to generate enough power to provide electricity for 400 homes, the company said.

Vermont has set a goal of using 25 percent renewable energy — like solar — by 2017.

The cost of the project was not disclosed.

Shares of Real Goods Solar rose 37 cents, or 16.6 percent, to close at $2.60.
