Read the letter Barbara Bush wrote to Marge Simpson decades ago

In the wake of the death of former First Lady Barbara Bush, The Simpsons showrunner Al Jean shared a letter that Bush sent Marge Simpson almost two decades ago when the two had an exchange that started salty but had a heartwarming ending. During a magazine interview in 1990, Bush said The Simpsons “was the dumbest thing she’s ever seen.” Being the protective and dignified matriarch that she is, Marge did not clap back. Instead, she wrote a letter to the First Lady at the time. Being an equally dignified woman, Bush responded and apologized in a letter written to Marge saying, “I’m glad you spoke your mind; I foolishly didn’t know you had one.”
