Ratings: Rio Olympics Closing Ceremony Ends Games With a Whimper

The 2016 Rio Olympics officially ended on Sunday night with a less-than-stellar ratings performance.

The closing ceremony of the Summer Games drew an estimated 4.0 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic and 16.9 million viewers, down 57 percent and 45 percent, respectively, from the 2012 London Olympics.

That still put NBC’s Olympics coverage far ahead of all broadcast competition, and it gave a lift to a sample of the new season of “The Voice,” which aired at 10 p.m. ET on Sunday. The new episode of the singing competition series enjoyed a 2.7 rating and 10.4 million viewers thanks to the Olympics lead in.
