Ratings: NBC’s Steelers-Chiefs Tackles Packers-Cowboys in Primetime

Fox’s Green Bay Packers-Dallas Cowboys nail-biter scored big in Nielsen TV ratings. Unfortunately for the NFC Divisional Playoff game and its host network, NBC’s Pittsburgh Steelers-Kansas City Chiefs contest was huge(r) across actual primetime.

NBC comfortably won the all-important day part on an average basis, although Fox’s match-up took Sunday’s non-head-to-head pigskin battle in metered-market averages. Prime runner-up Fox’s first-ever one-hour “Simpsons” had a strong showing after a quick postgame show. A special “The Mick” followed, doing well itself.

CBS placed third, topping ABC and the Spanish-language broadcasters. Due to the nature of live sports, fast national numbers for NBC and Fox are subject to significant revision.

NBC was first in ratings with a 8.2 rating/24 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 25.5 million, according to preliminary numbers. That initial average was comprised of one rerun, the Kansas City pregame show and as much of the game that made primetime’s 11 p.m. cutoff.

Fox was second in ratings with a 7.2/21 and in viewers with 21.6 million. The final hour of the Green Bay “W” scored a 14.7/43 and 46.6 million viewers. “The Simpsons” at 8 earned a 5.1/14 and 14.1 million viewers. “The Mick” at 9 posted a 2.0/6 and 4.9 million viewers. “Family Guy” at 9:30 received a 1.6/4 and 3.7 million viewers.

CBS was third in ratings with a 0.8/2 and in viewers with 7 million. At 7, “60 Minutes” had a 0.7/2 and 7.4 million viewers. “NCIS: Los Angeles” at 8 got a 1.0/3 and 8.6 million viewers. At 9, “Madam Secretary” received a 0.8/2 and 7.5 million viewers. “Elementary” at 10 closed prime to 0.6/2 and 4.4 million viewers.

ABC was fourth in ratings with a 0.7/2 and in viewers with 3.6 million. “America’s Funniest Home Videos” at 7 had a 0.7/2 and 4 million viewers. At 8, “To Tell the Truth” got a 0.8/2 and 4 million viewers. A second episode followed at 9 with a 0.9/2 and 3.9 million viewers. At 10, “Conviction” received a 0.5/1 and 2.4 million viewers.

Univision was fifth in ratings with a 0.6/2 and in viewers with 1.7 million.

Telemundo was sixth in ratings with a 0.5/1 and in viewers with 1.4 million.
