'Rashford must become more clinical as a striker'

Marcus Rashford must start taking his chances if he wants to play as a striker; that’s according to Yahoo UK Head of Sport Raj Mannick.

With Romelu Lukaku preferred up front for Manchester United, the 20-year-old has been used largely as a left winger by manager Jose Mourinho, despite the Englishman stating he prefers to play through the middle.

But Mannick told The Football Show that Rashford needs to prove he is good enough to play as a striker, and to do that he needs to start scoring more goals.

“He is dangerous. I would love to see him get more games, I would love to see Rashford play more for United.

“He is such a fantastic prospect but he has to take those chances. Mourinho has said that for more than a year now. [He’s told him] ‘you need to score more goals’, when a chance comes your way you need to take it.”

According to WhoScored, Rashford has scored 32 goals in 126 total matches for Manchester United. However, this drops to 17 goals from 81 in the Premier League; although he has started just over half of his matches in the league.

Although he should see more chances come his way as he starts more games, Mannick says wannabe striker must make it count.

“It’s the chicken and the egg. If you get the chance and don’t take it, then you’re not going to get the next opportunity.”

Rashford’s next chances are likely to come on Tuesday night as England host Switzerland in a friendly.
