Rare Gorgosaurus skeleton up for auction at Sotheby's

Sotheby’s expects it to fetch up to $8 million

SOTHEBY’S SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT AND GLOBAL HEAD OF THE SCIENCE AND POPULAR CULTURE DEPARTMENT, CASSANDRA HATTON, SAYING:

"The market is really hot for dinosaurs. // Because it was found in the U.S., that means we can actually sell it, and that is part of what makes this dinosaur so rare. There's only been a handful of specimens that have been found. They're all in museums. This is the only one that's in commerce."

This is a finished skeleton of a Gorgosaurus

It measures 10 feet tall and 22 feet long

and roamed the earth 77 million years ago

It was found in Montana in 2018

“I think there will be interest from both privates and museums. My experience so far with those clients of mine that do own dinosaurs is that they give them to museums. Where do you put this? I mean, very few people actually have the space to put something like this in their homes.”
