Rantoul man arrested, charged with murder in April fatal shooting

May 8—RANTOUL — A Rantoul man was arrested and charged with murder on Wednesday for allegedly shooting a man at an arranged meeting last month.

The Champaign County Sheriff's Office and Rantoul Police Department responded to the intersection of 3200 North and County Road 1800 East in Rantoul for a shooting on April 15.

The investigation indicated the victim, Jonalberto Gualaupe Sanchez, 24, of Rantoul, was in a dispute with Argenis Rincon, 32, over a previous relationship, and the two had agreed to meet at the location.

The encounter concluded with Sanchez shot in the upper torso.

He was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, where he later died.

Sheriff's detectives arrested Rincon at the Champaign County Sheriff's Office at approximately 12:44 p.m. Wednesday.

Rincon was transported to the Champaign County Correctional Center and charged with murder.
