Rantoul Fire Dept. hosting open house for new fire station

RANTOUL, Ill. (WCIA) — The Rantoul Fire Department is inviting the community to an open viewing of their upgraded fire station from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday night.

After nearly 50 years, Station No. 2 was long overdue for a facelift. The Rantoul Board voted unanimously in April 2023 to put $750,000 of the village’s American Rescue Plan Act funds towards the firehouse project.

Firefighters cited space and safety as two primary reasons behind the enhancements. Some safety improvements include new showers, washing machines, and a dryer to combat harmful chemicals. The CDC says cancer is among the leading cause of death in firefighters due to prolonged exposure to hazardous substances.

The new and improved fire station is located at 500 North Maplewood Drive.
