Rancho Cordova DUI checkpoint coming soon

(FOX40.COM) — The Rancho Cordova Police Department (RCPD) is scheduled to host a driving under the influence (DUI) and driver’s license checkpoint soon.

“Officers will be contacting drivers passing through the checkpoint for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment,” RCPD said. “Officers will also check for proper licensing and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily.”

Why does California law enforcement announce DUI checkpoints?

The checkpoint is from 7 p.m. on March 15 to 2 a.m. on March 16 at an undisclosed location in Rancho Cordova.

“Drive sober or get pulled over,” police said.

Officials said that DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road, according to police.

RCPD reported that drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties and a suspended license.
