I’d been up for an hour when the news flashed on my iPhone. “Report, Rams sign Jeff Fisher to two year extension”.

Wait, what?

Jeff Fisher, he of the sub .500 record with the Los Angeles Rams was sticking around. He still has a job, and on this day, the day news was announced that fans had been dreading, not wanting to believe would ever happen, also had a game against the New England Patriots.

The result: A 26-10 loss in New England.

Predictable, yes.

Fisher and Snead being announced they have signed extensions?
Not so much.

However today is spun, and it will be from an organizational perspective, few if any will feel good about the state of Los Angeles Rams football.

As for today, L.A. was never in this game. Before halftime, the Patriots had opened up a 17 point lead. The Rams had managed 25 yards and a single first down.

It wasn’t even that close.

As for Jared Goff, he’d go 14 of 32 for a whopping 161 yards and a touchdown near the end of regulation. He’d add a couple of INT’s to his line, including one on a pass that bounced off a receiver’s hands and into a defenders hands.

Oh, and dropped balls galore.

It was a pedestrian performance from top to bottom.

It was predictable.

It also didn’t inspire any hope that they were close to NOT being a bad football team, because they are.

That hasn’t changed.

The headline today is that Jeff Fisher, a coach with a losing record, received a contract extension based on stability and consistency.

Winning was not part of the equation, because winning isn’t what it’s about in Los Angeles.

At least it wasn’t today.

And judging by the past performances under Fisher, it may not be anytime soon.
