Raising of the Irish Flag at City Hall in Scranton

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Ongoing construction at Scranton City Hall could not stop an annual Saint Patrick’s Parade week tradition.

City Hall staffers with members of the Irish-American Association of Lackawanna County raise the Irish flag Friday on the City Hall flagpole.

The flag was actually donated to the city by the Irish-American Association and the annual flag-raising has been a tradition since 1991.

Scranton Parade Day starts with mass at the Cathedral of Saint Peter

“It’s the ramp up to the parade, tonight festivities will start, our flag is here for all to see and it will be here through Saint Patrick’s Day and a few days after,” said Tim Kelly, the President of the Irish-American Association.

The 62nd Scranton Saint Patrick’s Parade steps off Saturday at 11:45 a.m.
