A high-rise building in the Russian city of Belgorod was hit as the city was shelled overnight on March 29, local BelPlus Telegram claimed.

A missile threat was declared in Oblast, Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov wrote at 1:49 a.m. MSK.

The first photos and videos of the attack aftermath began to appear shortly thereafter.

A "rain of shrapnel" was reported in addition to the strike on the building.

Debris from the downed shells shattered apartment windows.

Local authorities have not yet commented on the consequences of the shelling.

The air raid alarm in the region was canceled, Gladkov said at 2:42 a.m. MSK, which was his only comment regarding the attack.

Russian volunteers from the Freedom of Russia Legion (LSR), the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK), and the Siberian Battalion announced a new operation in Russia’s Belgorod Oblast on March 12.

The RDK claimed to have advanced several dozens of kilometers and taken prisoners. Moscow reported casualties among the Russian army.

Russian rebels attacked the FSB building in Belgorod on March 13.

Russian volunteers also claimed control over the settlement of Tiotkino, Kursk Oblast. The village was in a gray zone, they said later.

Two ammunition depots in Tiotkino were destroyed, the LSR claimed on March 14.

The LSR said its main mission was to reach Moscow.

Russian rebels recorded a joint appeal to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin on March 16, urging him to contact them.

The Siberian Battalion and the RDK raised their flags in the village of Kozinka, Belgorod Oblast on March 17.

The Siberian Battalion fighters announced they had entered the settlement of Gorkovskyi, Belgorod Oblast and to have seized the local administration building together with volunteers from the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria.

The Russian army lost more than 1,500 soldiers killed and wounded because of the special operation in Belgorod and Kursk oblasts, LSR representative, Aleksey Baranovsky, claimed at a press conference on March 21.

Russia’s Defense Ministry complained about an alleged attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Belgorod Oblast using Vampir multiple-launch rocket system on March 27.
