Rainforest Challenge : Day 1 highlights

Omkar Thakur

The Rainforest challenge has commenced in the picturesque setting of Goa and 30 participants around the country are battling for the honours. One of the toughest off-road challenges in the country, the off-roaders have to be specially built to be able to compete. Day 1 saw special stages SS1 to SS6 and some insane action. Here are a few clicks to show what exactly happens at the Rainforest Challenge.

This purpose-built Maruti Gypsy powers itself out from a 4 feet deep trench, an obstacle in SS2.

The competitors had to bridge the pit using logs to go across after the tricky entry in SS3.

Not everything is hunky dory. A competitor breaks his drive-shaft at the entry of SS1.

That’s SS2 where the jeep wades through water and then scale two steep inclines with no grip at all.

Deep slush into a standing wall and that’s where the winch comes in – SS4.

Positioning your machine and winching it as you power it can be tricky and can break the car – SS5.

The articulation needed for such obstacles is insane. Here is a picture of crazy articulation - SS5.

It always feels nice to finish all stages. Bijender Singh and his co-driver celebrating after SS6.

Here are the results from day-1 of the Rain Forest Challenge 2016.
