Rain, snow, winds and colder weather early in the week
A large storm arrived yesterday, sending a backdoor front across northeastern New Mexico this morning. It’s bringing widespread, light snow across northeast and east central parts of the state, continuing to push south through the late morning. Most activity across east central New Mexico will taper off early this afternoon while heavier snow develops across the Northern Mountains and west central mountains. Over half a foot of additional snow is possible across the highest elevations. US 64 near Capulin and I-25 at Raton Pass and Glorieta Pass will likely see slick travel this afternoon.

Isolated spotty showers will develop across lower elevations of western and central New Mexico while mountain snow continues. Most activity will dissipate overnight tonight with a much drier start to the morning tomorrow. More afternoon and evening showers, storms, and high elevation snow will arrive Tuesday afternoon as a weak disturbance moves overhead. This will keep below average and breezy conditions around the state.
Much drier, westerly winds arrive Wednesday. This will usher in much quieter and sunnier conditions into Thursday and Friday. It will also kick off a warming trend that will bring likely the warmest weather so far this year across New Mexico late this week and into the weekend. Enjoy a brief break in the unsettled weather pattern before another storm likely begins to impact the state early next week.
