Rain and a possible thunderstorm? Here’s what Sacramento weather is up to this week

The rain isn’t over in Sacramento.

The National Weather Service is forecasting more rain — and even thunderstorms — in the Sacramento area, that could arrive as early as Wednesday afternoon.

Weather officials are advising residents to exercise caution as the possibility of thunderstorms looms.

Here’s when the rain could arrive and some safety tips to consider:

Sacramento weather forecast

The system will roll in around sunset in the Sacramento area, said Craig Shoemaker, weather service meteorologist.

“It’s just very brief, very light, not a big deal,” Shoemaker said.

There is a a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms, according to the five-day forecast, and less than a tenth of an inch of rain is forecast in the Sacramento metro area during Wednesday’s thunderstorm. Overnight temperatures will dip to 44 degrees.

On Thursday and Friday, sunny conditions will return. Temperature highs for the two days will remain in the 60s with lows in the 40s, according to the forecast.

Rain is possible again over the weekend.

“It’s only some very light showers and it probably won’t even accumulate to anything,” Shoemaker said.

Saturday the weather service is forecasting a slight chance of showers. Temperatures will reach highs of 62 degrees and lows of 43 degrees, according to the five day forecast.

Sunday the chance of showers will continue, but mainly after 10 p.m., according to the weather service.

Temperatures on Sunday will reach a high of 61 degrees and a low around 47 degrees.

Thunderstorm safety tips

With the possibility of thunderstorms in the forecast, the weather service posted safety tips on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Weather officials advised residents to locate a safe, sturdy spot, away from windows, to shelter before the thunderstorms arrive.

If being indoors isn’t possible, another option would be to take shelter in a car. The agency did stress avoiding taking shelter under trees or pavilions.

If you’re out driving during a storm, avoid flooded roads.
