Rain, possible severe storms may roll through tonight

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Rain is possible around 4 Thursday afternoon, and there is a chance for some severe storms to roll through beginning Thursday evening.

WREG’s Todd Demers said we should be ready for showers in the afternoon around rush hour. But another, stronger line is forecast to bring rain later in the evening.

The National Weather Service has most of the News Channel 3 viewing area in a Slight risk area for severe weather, although chances are higher in northwest Tennessee and the Missouri bootheel.

NWS says a line of storms is forecast to approach around 7 p.m., or earlier. Primary threats include damaging winds and large hail.

“If the atmosphere remains unstable for the line of storms, damaging winds, large hail, and quick spin up tornadoes are possible,” NWS said.

However, they also said confidence in their models is “lower than desired” and the impacts may be “limited” due to arrival time.

WREG’s Todd Demers says rain or thunder is likely later tonight with our latest storm system dissolving as it moves through the area.
