Rain mostly stayed away as storm veered south of Ventura County

Rain forecast for Ventura County Thursday night and Friday mostly failed to materialize after the system took a more southerly route than originally predicted.

Less than a tenth of an inch fell in most of Ventura County, according to the National Weather Service office in Oxnard. Rain instead visited Orange and San Diego counties and parts of Los Angeles County, where some thunderstorms were reported Thursday night.

Light snow dusted the Lockwood Valley and Frazier Park areas overnight Thursday, leaving an inch or more at elevations of 5,000 feet and above.

On Saturday, some scattered showers might drop trace amounts of rain around Ventura County coastal and interior areas, forecasters said, with heavier rainfall on northern mountain slopes around Kern County.

More snow was expected on the Grapevine section of Interstate 5 Friday night. Levels were expected to fall to 2,500 to 3,000 feet, with perhaps an inch or two accumulating along the corridor overnight into Saturday.
