Rain chances go up for the weekend, especially on Saturday

(PINPOINT WEATHER) — We were feeling the heat on Thursday! The high at Charlotte reached 89 degrees — just a couple degrees from tying the record of 91.

Friday is when we start to talk about showers and storms again. An approaching cold front plus increasing humidity will result in scattered showers and storms developing, mainly in the mountains and foothills Friday afternoon. However, a spot shower or storm or two can’t be ruled out around the Charlotte area as well.

Saturday, the chance of rain increases. It’s looking like the overall wetter half of the weekend, with rain or storms possible any time of day. Sunday, we likely won’t see quite as many showers as Saturday. Still, lightning will be possible, so remember to take shelter if you start to hear thunder! When thunder roars, go indoors!

Unsettled weather with daily chances of spotty storms will linger into next week. The warmth and humidity will stick around as well, with highs most days remaining in the 80s.

Tonight: Fair sky. Low 64.

Friday: Increasing clouds. A few p.m. showers and storms. High 86.
