Raiders fans attempt to fight Donald Penn following third straight loss

Things have gone from bad to worse for the Oakland Raiders. After Oakland dropped its third consecutive game in a 30-17 home defeat Sunday to Baltimore, offensive lineman Donald Penn encountered a slew of angry fans wanting to fight him as he left the stadium.

The rowdy heckler induced Penn to get out of his car and approach a mob of displeased fans for a limited, albeit very heated exchange, before security eventually intervened. Penn later tweeted that he was provoked by a bottle thrown at his Rolls Royce.

Regardless of whether Penn was provoked, it is certainly a good thing he didn’t further engage, although the best outcome would have been for him to continue driving. On the other hand, while fans pay money to taunt players at games, seldom do we witness someone taunting players from the team they support.

As things stand, the Raiders are in quite a bind. After starting the season 2-0, Oakland — a trendy preseason Super Bowl dark horse — is not only in the midst of a three-game slide, but also dealing with the loss of injured quarterback Derek Carr. Carr is out at least one more game and possibly several others with a back injury. Meanwhile, the AFC West has become quite the minefield given the how well the undefeated Chiefs have played, along with the 3-1 Broncos.
