Ragin’ Cajuns Complete Undefeated Weekend in Arkansas

CONWAY, Ark. – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Softball team completed a four-game sweep of the Milisa Moore Tournament at Farris Field in Conway, Arkansas on Sunday, March 10, posting a 13-4 win over Stephen F. Austin and 10-0 (5 inn.) win over Central Arkansas.

With the Sunday sweep, Louisiana (14-12) extended its winning streak to five games and pushed its record back above the .500 mark.

UL also completed a string of 15 consecutive games away from home, the squad set to return to Lamson Park on Wednesday, March 13 to face McNeese prior to opening Sun Belt Conference play March 15-17 in Mobile at South Alabama.

The Cajuns, the visiting team both games, jumped ahead early each time with a quick strike in the first inning. Louisiana’s pitchers took the circle for the first time with a 4-0 lead both contests.

Against SFA (5-19), a three-run home run from Jourdyn Campbell put the finishing touches on the first-inning production.

Clinging to a 5-3 lead entering the fifth inning, the Cajuns began filling the base path with runners and stretched the lead out. Sam Roe walked and scored on Sophie Piskos’ double, then a pair of hit by pitches led to stolen base attempts that drew errant throws for two more runs making it 8-3.

In the sixth inning Louisiana loaded the bases for the first of six consecutive batters that reached base adding three more runs on the scoreboard for an 11-4 advantage.

Maddie Hayden’s 3-for-5 performance led a group of five Cajuns with multiple hits as the team piled up a season-high 15 hits. Campbell was the top run producer with four RBI keyed by the three-run homer in the first.

Denali Loecker (4.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 3 K) claimed the win in relief, her first as a Cajun, slowing down the Lumberjacks to the tune of only two hits allowed over the final four frames.

The UCA matchup began with Mihyia Davis tripling to lead off and scoring on a wild pitch two batters later. Before the Cajuns’ initial at bat came to a close, Laney Credeur lifted a towering two-run home run to right center advancing the lead to 4-0.

Brooke Ellestad homered in the second inning with a solo shot and the lead remained 5-0 through the fourth inning.

The Cajuns doubled their lead in the fifth by turning in another inning of piecing together hits. The stretch was completed with Roe (single) and Piskos (double) going back-to-back with run-scoring hits to bring the lead to 8-0, then Credeur doubling and Alexa Langeliers going up the middle for runs that finished off the scoring.

Aside from a bases loaded situation in the third inning, Sam Landry (5.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 7 K) coasted to the complete game victory. She extended her personal win streak to five games and improved to 6-5 on the season.

Both Credeur and Ellestad homered and doubled. The three RBI by Credeur led the way while Ellestad collected her second multiple-hit game of the day and finished 4-for-6 at the plate.

Louisiana extended its series win streak over SFA to 13 games – all occurring in the 2000s. The Cajuns remained unbeaten against the Bears (7-15), increasing the series lead to 5-0.
