INDEX, Wash. (AP) — Sheriff's officials say two rafts have overturned on a raging river in the Cascade Mountain foothills northeast of Seattle, and it's not clear how many people are missing.
Snohomish County sheriff's spokeswoman Shari Ireton told KING-TV (http://is.gd/XaewAF) dive teams were responding to the Skykomish River on Tuesday after the rafts overturned. She said two rafters had made it to shore.
The area is popular for whitewater rafting and kayaking. Winter rains and snowmelt have swollen the river, which includes class 4 and 5 whitewater rapids.
