Radio Waves of Love: Area radio station shows their 'Caring Hearts'

Feb. 29—DICKINSON — In a heartwarming display of community spirit, The Connection, a beloved local Christian radio station nestled in the heart of Dickinson, launched an inspiring initiative known as the Caring Hearts Project.

The Caring Hearts Project, a brainchild of The Connection, aimed to unite local churches and schools in a collective effort to spread love and positivity to elderly members of the community residing in nursing homes or assisted living facilities. The premise was simple yet profound: individuals of all ages were encouraged to craft Valentine's Day cards, aptly termed "caring hearts," with messages of affection and support, serving as a poignant reminder to these seniors that they are cherished and remembered.

Setting an ambitious target of 500 cards to be distributed, The Connection surpassed all expectations, amassing a staggering total of approximately 1,300 caring hearts. This outpouring of generosity not only exceeded their initial goal but also demonstrated the depth of compassion within the community.

Participation in the event transcended age and affiliation, with numerous churches and schools joining hands to contribute. Among the enthusiastic participants were members from Hope Christian Academy, Trinity Elementary School North, Lincoln Elementary, and Dickinson Middle School, alongside attendees from various local Sunday Schools and Awana Clubs, including Calvary Chapel, Evangelical Bible Church, Hillside Baptist, and Our Saviours Lutheran Church.

The surplus of cards ensured that each resident of the care centers received not one, but two heartfelt tokens, serving to uplift their spirits and infuse the holiday season with an abundance of love and joy. Buoyed by the overwhelming success of the initiative, Heidi Larson, General Manager of The Connection, expressed her aspirations to extend the project's reach to other segments of the community, including the Domestic Violence Center and veterans.

"We will be hosting another event like this in the fall," Larson announced, "with the aim of expressing gratitude and extending our support to nursing homes, and, hopefully, to veterans and victims of domestic violence."

Emphasizing that the plans for future events are still in their nascent stages and require further refinement, Larson underscored The Connection's unwavering commitment to fostering love and kindness within the community.

In addition to the heartwarming Caring Hearts Project, The Connection has an array of exciting events lined up for the year, including a highly anticipated concert featuring "The Sidewalk Prophets." Attendees can anticipate not only soul-stirring music but also generous giveaways, including tickets to the event and a collection of CDs from The Sidewalk Prophets.
